Carlos Bautista: Colorful Huichol Beaded Bull Skull

$800.00 $550.00- Collector Price

An extraordinary hand beaded bull skull with a wonderful array of traditional Huichol (pronounced wē-ˈchōl) designs featuring deer, turtles, sun, lizards, rabbits, peyote, and more. This piece has color and adds vibrant pop to a room. It makes for a very powerful wall piece. Each bead is meticulously placed in a thin layer of beeswax creating a tapestry like effect. Truly authentic Huichol art can be hard to find today. Many artists have lost cultural connections migrating to big cities far from home. The art we represent supports artists who actually live in the sierra, helping them stay connected to their ceremonies and rituals that make up what it means to be Huichol. Carlos is an amazing artist who lives in San Andres Cohamiata the ancient ceremonial center deep in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Western Mexico. San Andrés Cohamiata is an autonomously governed Wixárika village located in Mezquitic, Jalisco. Carlos only comes to town once in a awhile but always brings wonderful pieces that reflect his commitment to his culture. This piece comes with free shipping in the continental United States.
