When Spaniards arrived, they used the mask tradition to teach Christian beliefs to the people. This mask is an interpretation with symbols generally associated which the devil. There is the snake, goat’s eyes, bat’s ears, and a spider in the beard which is fire. The skeleton represents damned souls. Amazing detail.
