The history of glass trade beads is interesting. Introduced by the Spanish to the new world they were a medium of exchange. Later they served for jewelry, ceremonial objects and ornamentation for their clothing.  The Paiute are best known for their beaded willow basket work, created largely as sales items starting around 1910.
