Castillo Family: Turtle

Always in the search for something fun and different we have a great new artist for you voracious collectors. Ironically, the Castillo family has been carving for over 25 years but they have received little recognition because they are in a non-tourist village in northern Oaxaca. They are the only artists in their village where most people are employed in agricultural work. They construct their pieces in a fashion similar to old style carvings out of copal wood but with a unique carving and painting style all their own. A real win-win for collectors and the artists as I don’t expect these to last long.
